Nine more commercial turkey farms in Dubois County, Indiana have tested positive for HPAI, bringing the total to 10 commercial turkey operations affected. All positive flocks are located within the original control area, identified through surveillance testing. New 10K circles have been drawn to expand the control area with daily testing occuring in order to minimize the impact.
Back on Friday, January 15th, USDA APHIS confirmed the first highly pathogenic H7N8 avian influenza in a commercial turkey flock in southern Indiana. It's important to note that this is a different strain of HPAI that caused the 2015 outbreak. All currently affected flocks are being tested to determine the virus type.
