Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Star Girls Softball Series

A number of area athletes will take part in the 25th annual Minnesota High School All-Star Girls Softball Series on June 9th, co-sponsored by the Minnesota High School Fastpitch Coaches Association and the National Softball Association. In all, 72 seniors have been chosen to take part in the All-Star Series. The event will be held at Caswell Park in North Mankato on Sunday June 9th with opening ceremonies to begin at 11:30am


Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches' Association All-State Teams

The Minnesota Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association has released their All-State Team for the 2013 season.

On the Class A All-State Team, Mountain Lake Area senior Janessa Peters and Murray County Central senior Taylor Schreier were chosen to the Class A All-State Second Team.


Fire destroys Sheldon, Iowa printing facility

SHELDON, Iowa – An early morning fire at White Wolf Web in Sheldon, Iowa destroyed the building Tuesday that prints several publications, including the Northwest Iowa Review, the Gazette-Tribune and Okoboji Magazine. The blaze, reported at 1:20 a.m., caused major damage and brought out the Sheldon Fire Department and three mutual aid departments from Ashton, Boyden and Sanborn. White Wolf Web, located at 300 Second Avenue and owned by Peter Wagner, is part of the Iowa Information Group.

WORTHINGTON – Executive Director for the Minnesota West Foundation Jim Smalley announced Monday the capital campaign for the Center for Health and Wellness on the Worthington Campus of Minnesota West has passed the $100,000 mark. The goal for the renovation and new building of the facility is $400,000.

PIPESTONE – Physician’s Assistant Dan Woldt of Slayton has been hired at the Pipestone County Medical Center. Woldt will fill a position left vacant by the departure of Melissa Scotting and help fill in at the Edgerton clinic during the six month medical leave of Dr. Matthew Viel. Woldt, who worked for the Murray County Medical Center, is currently involved in a civil lawsuit against the Slayton facility and its CEO, Mel Snow.

RUSHMORE – After a manure spill Wednesday in Nobles County, water samples taken from a gravel pit in Little Rock Township will be sent to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for analysis to determine if contamination exists. According to Nobles County Environmental Services Director Wayne Smith, the spill has been contained with a dirt berm and some round bales.

The Minnesota State Fair and Minnesota Farm Bureau congratulate the Minnesota farms that have been recognized as 2013 Century Farms. Qualifying farms are those that have been in a continuous family ownership for a minimum of 100 years and are 50+ acres.

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Area YMCA and City of Worthington Aquatics Center outdoor pool is undergoing minor repairs related to winter-weather related cracking and will open as soon as the repairs are finished and weather permits.

According to YMCA Aquatics Director Connie Carlson, there is no definite date set for the repairs to be finished, but further updates regarding the pool’s status will be announced as soon as possible.
