ADRIAN - Friends and family of Sara Vortherms will be holding a benefit on her behalf Saturday, February 22, 2014. The benefit will be held at the Adrian American Legion building from noon to 8 pm. There will be a silent and live auction, bake sale, games and food and beverage.

Sara was diagnosed with large B-cell non-hodgins Lymphoma in October of 2013. She is undergoing chemotherapy treatment and will have her last treatment in February.


MFU President Addresses Propane Shortage

Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) is calling for increased action at the state and federal levels to deal with Minnesota’s ongoing propane shortage crisis. Minnesota farmers and rural residents need real answers.

MFU thanks our Congressional delegation and Governor Dayton for their ongoing efforts in helping ease this crisis. However, there are still questions as to why and how this happened, starting with: is the federal government moving to correct the cause of the propane shortage?

WORTHINGTON – A former Worthington man pleaded guilty Wednesday to third-degree assault in Nobles County District Court. Joshua Barker, age 25, entered into a plea agreement with the state, admitting he assaulted another man in April of 2013 during a confrontation. As per the agreement, other assault charges pending were dismissed.

Barker said he hit another man with a glass, causing three deep lacerations to his head. In the midst of the confrontation at an apartment they shared, there was no other way to get him to move, Barker said, when the man backed him into a corner.

WORTHNGTON – The Nobles County Commissioners on Tuesday approved an agreement with the Minnesora Department of Transportation for use of Highway 16 as a detour route when construction begins this year on Minnesota 62 between Fulda and Windom. The $14 million project will go out for bid in March.


President to Sign Farm Bill Friday

The Agricultural Act of 2014 has passed the Senate 68-32! This follows closely on the heels of the farm bill being passed the House by 251-166! Of course, now the report is expected to get to the President's desk for his signature before the bill officially becomes law. Congress and ag organizations alike are calling on the President to sign the bill into law without delay.

According to the White House, President Obama will travel to East Lansing, Mich., on Friday and sign the farm bill there.

MINNEAPOLIS - Joan Mondale, who built a reputation as a national cultural arts advocate while her husband was vice president, has died. Her family issued a statement through their church saying she died Monday afternoon with family by her side.

Mondale was so passionate about the arts that she was nicknamed "Joan of Art." She herself was an avid potter when her husband Walter, then a Democratic U.S. senator from Minnesota, was elected Jimmy Carter's vice president in 1976.

SIOUX FALLS, SD - A Hills man is in custody after an assault and carjacking in central Sioux Falls Sunday night. Sioux Falls Police responded to a car crash near Minnesota Ave. and 26th St at 8:40 p.m., only to find the driver had fled.
