Sendoff Scheduled for Worthington Trojan Gymnastics Team

There will be a public sendoff for the Worthington Trojan Gymnastics Team as they head for the Minnesota State Gymnastics Meet this weekend.

The sendoff is scheduled for this Thursday at the Worthington High School Gym from 10:40am until 11:05am.

HL-O Boys and Girls Basketball teams to hold fundraisers February 13th & 14th

The Heron Lake-Okabena Girls and Boys Basketball team will be holding fundraisers on February 13th and 14th

The Wildcat Girls and Boys basketball team have been raising money for former Southwest Star Concept student/athlete Tyler Leopold and his family. Tyler’s two-year-old daughter Elliana was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in September. She has been going through chemotherapy in Rochester and has a very successful surgery last week that removed 98% of her tumor.

All proceeds raised are going directly to the family to help pay for Elliana’s medical expenses.


Four Minnesota West Football Players sign National Letters of Intent to Move On

(Worthington, MN) Minnesota West Community & Technical College had four football players sign National Letters of Intent to continue playing football at the next level.

Connor Kunkel, from Luverne, Minnesota signed with the University of Minnesota-Crookston (Division 2)

Donovan Jackson, from Detroit, Michigan, signed with Austin Peay State University (Division 1-AA)

Stephon Hall from Detroit, Michigan, signed with Northeastern State University (Division 2)

Jonathan Johnson from Monroe, Michigan, signed with Southwest Minnesota State University (Division 2)


Wietzema commits to DWU

It was National Signing Day for area athletes to sign Letters of Intent on Wednesday to continue their football career at the next level.

Worthington senior Trevor Wietzema has declared to play football at college for the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in Mitchell (SD). Wietzema was named the MVP of the Trojan Football team this past season and was a Big South All-Conference Selection. He has also been an All-Conference selection in wrestling and honorable mention all-conference in baseball. Trevor Wietzema is the son of Troy and Angela Wietzema.


Melissa Gehl named MCAC Player of the Week

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their weekly Women's Basketball awards and this week's MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week is Minnesota West's Melissa Gehl

Gehl, a freshman from Fulda, scored 57 points in the Lady Jays 2 victories last week including a 31-point effort in Minnesota's West win over Western Tech on Saturday. In those 2 games, Gehl was 23-of-50 (46%) from the field and made 6 three-pointers.


Will Mulder signs with Dordt

On Monday night, Worthington Trojan Senior Will Mulder committed to continue both his basketball and golf careers with the Dordt Defenders, a 4-year school based in Sioux Center (IA)

Mulder talked about why he chose Dordt

“They have my major. I like Ag. Not to mention their basketball program is top notch. I like how Ross Douma runs his team, runs the program. It’s all-around good.”


Iowa Lakes Softball signs 4 area athletes

Iowa Lakes Head Softball Coach Corey Christopher has announced that 4 area athletes will play softball for Iowa Lakes

Tara Sudenga of Luverne, Minn., has signed a National Junior College Letter of Intent to play softball for the Lakers beginning this season.


Minnesota Twins Winter Caravan to make a stop in Worthington on Jan. 20th

The 55th annual Twins Winter Caravan will be making a stop in Worthington on January 20th.

The Twins Caravan will be making a stop at the Worthington Area YMCA and DeGroot Family Center on Collegeway in Worthington on January 20th from 9:00am-9:45am. Making a stop in Worthington this year is Twins Infielder Brian Dozier, Pitcher Brian Duensing and announcer Jack Morris and Dick Bremer alonf with T.C. Bear.

The public is invited and there is no charge to attend.
