Worthington Trojan Softball team fell 30-11 to the Marshall Tigers in six innings in Game 2 of their doubleheader on Tuesday at Marshall despite racking up nine hits and 11 runs.
Allie Bruns led Worthington Trojans Varsity's offensive threat, as she got on base three times in the game. She scored one run and had one RBI. She doubled in the third inning and singled in the third inning.
Karley Polejewski got the win for the Marshall Tigers despite allowing 11 runs over three innings. Polejewski struck out one, walked six and gave up seven hits.
The Marshall Tigers easily handled Worthington Trojans Varsity pitching as six hitters combined for 16 hits, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
Katie Rogers was charged with the loss. She allowed 11 runs (all unearned) in three innings, walked three and struck out two.
The Marshall Tigers stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring three runs on an error and two ground outs.
The Marshall Tigers scored three runs in the second inning, and then followed it up with three more in the fourth.
Worthington scored three runs in the bottom of the second to cut its deficit to three. An RBI single by Kourtney Bauman, a fielder's choice, and a sacrifice fly by Olivia Petersen set off Worthington Trojans Varsity rally. The Worthington Trojans Varsity threat came to an end when Polejewski finally got Brittin Fauskee to fly out.
The Marshall Tigers built upon their lead with nine runs in the third. An eight-run third inning helped bring Worthington Trojans within four. A fielder's choice, an RBI single by Bauman, a two-run single by Christina Shorter, a two-run double by Fauskee, a groundout by Rogers, and an RBI single by Bruns triggered Worthington Trojans Varsity's comeback. But, Polejewski got Morgan LeBrun to to end the inning.
