Ihnen named MCAC and National Women's Basketball Player of the Week
After a record-breaking performance last weekend, Minnesota West Lady Jay sophomore Katherin Ihnen received a couple of awards this week.
Ihnen was named the Minnesota College Athletic Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the 2nd time this season. Last Friday in the Lady Jays win over Mesabi Range, Ihnen led Minnesota West with 26 points. She followed that up with 48 points and 18 rebounds in a win over Vermilion. The 48 points set a new Minnesota West record for points in a game, passing the 46 points scored by Lori Arp in the 1977-78 season.
With those 2 performances, Ihnen was also named the National Junior College Atheltic Association’s Division III National Player of the Week as well.
So far this season, Ihnen is averaging 23.5 points per game on 62% shooting and is also grabbing 11.7 rebounds per game as well.
The Lady Jays are 5-1 on the season and along with the Bluejays head up north for a pair of games this weekend taking on Itasca on Friday and Northland on Saturday
