Pickford and Preston to return to MN West next season
Minnesota West Bluejay Men’s Basketball coach Aaron Poor Bear has announced that 2 key players from last year’s Region 13 Championship team will be back in uniform for the Bluejays next season.
Guards DeShawn Pickford and Alex Preston will be back with the squad next season. Pickford, from Brooklyn Center, was a key factor for this year’s Bluejay team that won 19 games this season. Pickford was 2nd in the team in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. The 5’11” Pickford is a versatile player, averaging 5 rebounds 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game this season for Minnesota West. Pickford was named to the MCAC All-Southern Division team
Preston, from Prior Lake, is one of the more prolific shooters from beyond the 3-point line in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference. This season Preston made 58 of 133 three-point attempts for a season average of 43.6% which was 3rd best in the entire MCAC. Preston averaged 10.4 points per game for the Bluejays. Minnesota West finished this season with a 19-14 record and were the Region 13 Champions and finished 8th in the nation at the Division III National Tournament. It was the first time under the Minnesota West name that the Bluejays qualified for the national tournament.
