Trojan Softball falls to Marshall in Game 1 of Doubleheader

Worthington Trojans Varsity racked up eight hits, but it wasn't enough, as Worthington Trojans Varsity were 15-4 losers on Tuesday at the hands of the Marshall Tigers at Marshall.

Abby Smith racked up two RBIs on one hit for Worthington Trojans Varsity. She homered in the fourth inning.

Maddie Marks got the win for the Marshall Tigers. She allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings. She struck out three, walked two and surrendered eight hits.

The Marshall Tigers easily handled Worthington Trojans Varsity pitching as six hitters combined for 11 hits, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored.

Erin Benz was the game's losing pitcher. She allowed 15 runs in four innings, walked two and struck out none.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as the Marshall Tigers scored three runs on an RBI double by Ashley Bernardy and two singles.

The Marshall Tigers piled on four more runs in the bottom of the second.Anna Sanow kicked things off with a single, plating Ashley Bernardy. That was followed up by Madison Radel's single, scoring Abby Schauer.

After pushing across four runs in the top of the fourth, Worthington Trojans Varsity faced just a 8-4 deficit. A two-run single by Morgan LeBrun and a two-run home run by Smith fueled Worthington Trojans Varsity's comeback. Finally, Marks got Brittin Fauskee to ground out to end the threat.

The Marshall Tigers answered Worthington Trojans Varsity's top inning with seven runs of their own in the fourth. The Marshall Tigers scored on an RBI single by Destany Soupir, a fielder's choice, a two-run double by Morgan Radel, a two-run double by Ashley Bernardy, and an RBI double by Ashley Stattelman.
