Weg earns All-Academic honors at SMSU
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has released their 2016 Winter All-Academic Teams yesterday and former Worthington Trojan Mitch Weg was one of 30 SMSU athletes to earn All-Academic honors.
To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. Furthermore, the athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her/his institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
Mitch Weg, now a junior for he SMSU Men's Basketball team, is coming off a strong season with the Mustangs where he led the team in scoring (12.5 points per game) and rebounding (7.5 rebounds per game). He shot 58.4% from the field this season which was 6th best in school history. He was named the NSIC Player of the Week on November 23rd. The Mustangs finished the season with a 13-15 record.
Other area athletes to earn All-Academic honors were Carter Kirk (Mountain Lake) in Men’s Basketball, Austin LaFollette (Edgerton) in Men’s Indoor Track and Field, Alex Solheim (Slayton) in Men’s Indoor Track and Field, and Alex Weis (Luverne) in Men’s Indoor Track and Field.
