Weekly "Bingo Night"
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.
Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. To sign up, visit the City of Worthington Public Safety webpage.
Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!
Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.
Free Dental Implants
Mission Outreach a division of Four Square Enterprises is offering free dental implants by a licensed dentist here in Minnesota for qualified applicants that are seeking employment but are lacking the confidence and self esteem needed. Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed
The Business Education Committee is still seeking volunteers to teach Junior Achievement. They are in need of (5) kindergarten volunteers, (4) first grade volunteers, (1) third grade volunteer and (1) fourth grade volunteer. Hope Haven May Sale is still going on through June 5th at the Worthington Arena. Volunteer signups are appreciated but drop-ins are always welcome between 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Please also consider donating items for the sale. Please call 507-376-3168 with any questions
May 29 - Stargazing
Go Stargazing with Mike Lynch! Lynch, a broadcast meteorologist at WCCO Radio will be hosting an astronomy and stargazing class, along with a half hour of orientation of the night sky with maps and constellation diagrams provided. Cost is $10 for individuals, $25 for families. It's happening on Friday, May 29th at 9 to 11 p.m. at the Chatauqua Park Shelter House.
May 30 - Annual Chip-In-Fore-Education Golf Tournament
It's the Cella Bosma 6th Annual Chip-In-Fore-Education Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 30th, featuring a fun time 18-hole 4-person best ball tournament at the Sanborn Golf and Country Club. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. (limit 36 teams). Cost is $60 per person and includes meal, or meal-only for $15 per person. May 30 - DayzeeMae Poker Run
It's the DayzeeMae Rakotz Poker Run on Saturday, May 30th! DayzeeMae has been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma and will be undergoing treatments at Children's Hospital in Omaha for a year. Proceeds go to the family! This is a two-handed poker run with a $20 entry fee. Start at Cap'n'Ken's at Lake Park at 1 p.m., ending at Johnny's Pub ni Lake Park. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction, plus other games along the way. For more information, call Julie at 712-832-3050.
June 1 - ARC Blood Drive
Buffalo Ridge Apartments and the American Red Cross are teaming up to hold a Blood Drive in Worthington on June 1st from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Buffalo Ridge Apartments.There is a limited number of appointment time slots open for this drive, so please register early, but walk-ins are welcome. Appointments may be made by calling Jeff at 507-350-8944.
June 1 - Worthington RTA Report Presentation
The Worthington Retail Trade Analysis Report (2013) will be presented via Neil Linscheid, Extension Educator in Community Economics, at BenLee's Cafe on Monday, June 1st from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Soup, bread, and coffee will be available for $5. June 4-5 - Annual Lakes Health Conference
Residents and health professionals from throughout the region are invited to participate in the 11th Annual Lakes Health Conference June 4 and 5 in Okoboji. “Dance Like Nobody’s Watching” focuses on professional and personal individuality and healthcare from a patient’s point of view. Other topics include morbid obesity, sepsis, CIPA, and workplace injuries. June 5-7 - Annual Luverne Buffalo Days
The Luverne Buffalo Days returns for its 31st year with a Cruise-In on Friday, along with an ice cream social, plus the sounds of Starfire! June 6 - Dad's Belgian Waffle Fundraiser
Support the Rock County youth and enjoy delicious breakfast at the same time! On Saturday, June 6th, head to the Luverne American Legion for all-you-can-eat Dad's Belgian Waffles, sausages, and a beverage for just $8. Serving goes from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. Be sure to enjoy Buffalo Days at the same time!
June 6 - Bike Drive Project
Men's Brotherhood of American Reformed Church of Worthington is planning a local bike drive project for Center of Hope on June 6 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Center of Hope's Bike-to-Work Ministry (located in Sioux Falls) provides bikes to individuals in difficult life situations for an opportunity to have transportation to work. All adult bikes are accepted, regardless of brand or number of speeds. Adult bikes in working order are best, but we will take bikes that need minor repairs. Helmets and miscellaneous bike equipment would also be appreciated. Volunteers will collect donated bikes and equipment at the church during that day and then we will transport them to Sioux Falls. Please consider this when doing spring cleaning or having garage sales. If you would like to donate bikes before June 6, please contact Ken Zylstra (507-376-9568 or email@example.com).
June 6 - Annual WOW Bike Ride
The Wellness on Wheels bicycle ride returns for the fifth year on Saturday, June 6th during the Sioux Center Summer Celebration. A meal, great prizes, and complimentary event t-shirt are all included, with riders given three different options (depending on bicycling experience level). The cost of the 30- and 60-mile rides is $25 per rider for those who register by the early-bird deadline of Monday, May 25. The cost will increase to $30 after that date. The cost for the family fun ride will be $10 per rider through May 25 and $12 after that date. Bicyclists can register online for Wellness on Wheels (WOW5) at wow5.eventbrite.com.
June 6 - 10th Annual Walk, Run and Roll
The 10th Annual Run, Walk and Roll is Saturday, June 6th beginning at 8 a.m. Races include a 5K run, a 10K run, and a 1-mile walk/roll. Pre-registration is encouraged by May 31st. Cost is $35 per entry, with all events starting at 8 a.m. on the grounds of Village Northwest Unlimited. Refreshments will be provided following all of the events. Shower facilities will also be available.
June 8-12 - First Lutheran Church VBS
The First Lutheran Church ( 1200 4th Ave, Worthington MN) will be hosting Vacation Bible School (Son Spark Labs) June 8-12 from 9:00am until Noon every day. June 10 - Annual Great Gobbler Tournament
The 29th Annual Great Gobbler Tournament is coming up Wednesday, June 10th at the Worthington Country Club. This is a five-person format, 18-hole scramble at the cost of $65 per golfer (fee includes golf cart). Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. There are special event prizes on each hole with a $10,000 Hole-In-One prize on Hole #2. To sign up, contact the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce.
June 12 - UV Splash by the Color Dash
Get colorfied during the 2015 Windsurfing Regatta and Unvarnished Music Festival on Friday, June 12th with the UV Splash by the ColorDash! June 13 - Annual Worthington Regatta Bike Ride
The Sports & Recreation Committee of the Worthington Area Convention & Visitors’ Bureau is sponsoring the Annual Worthington Regatta Bike Ride on Saturday, June 13th in conjunction with the Worthington Windsurfing Regatta & Music Festival. There will be 15, 30, and 50 mile routes. New this year is a 7 mile family trail ride. Early registration is $20 per rider through June 5th. After June 5th the registration fee is $25 per rider. Registration will be from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. at Centennial Park. All rides will leave from Centennial Park at 9:00 a.m. All proceeds from this event will be used towards community programs. June 20 - Disc Golf Tournament
The Worthington Area Foundation is hosting a Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 20th at the Sunset Bay Disc Golf course. Check-in starts at 9 a.m. with the event at 9:15 a.m. This is an 18-hole random doubles disc golf tournament for ages 13 and up. Receive an event-specific discraft disc with the entry fee of $24. June 29-30 - Minnesota West Basketball Camp
Minnesota West Basketball Camp will be held on June 29th & 30th, at the YMCA. Grades 1 – 4 will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and grades 5 – 8 will be held from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at MN West Gym. The deadline to guarantee t-shirt size is June 22, 2015. Cost is $55.00 per camper. Each camper receives a t-shirt compliments of Sanford Health. New this year each camper receives a basketball compliments of Worthington Optimists. June 29 - CAL Wilde Prairie Winery
On Monday, June 29th the CAL will be hosting a trip to Wilde Prairie Winery in Brandon, SD where they will tour the vineyards, enjoy lunch and sample their wines in the tasting room. They will then move on to the classroom where you will be given simple instructions on painting and decorating two wine glasses to take home. Cost is $38.00 for CAL members, $42.00 for nonmembers. This day trip includes: travel arrangements, trip escort, transportation, lunch, art class instruction with two take-home wine glasses, tour, and wine tasting from Wilde Prairie Winery.
