Weekly "Bingo Night"
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.
Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. To sign up, visit the City of Worthington Public Safety webpage.
Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!
Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.
Free Dental Implants
Mission Outreach a division of Four Square Enterprises is offering free dental implants by a licensed dentist here in Minnesota for qualified applicants that are seeking employment but are lacking the confidence and self esteem needed. Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed
The Business Education Committee is still seeking volunteers to teach Junior Achievement. They are in need of (5) kindergarten volunteers, (4) first grade volunteers, (1) third grade volunteer and (1) fourth grade volunteer. October 1-16 - Radio Works Scarecrow Contest
Enter the Annual Radio Works Worthington Scarecrow contest! You design it with your employees, and the community gets to enjoy it! All businesses that wish to enter need to have their Scarecrows on display by October 16th; display can stay up as long as you wish. A community voting panel will judge your Scarecrow design shortly after the 19th. A winner will be named on-air on October 23, 2015. Chamber Checks will be awarded for the top two Community Scarecrows!
October 7 - Social Media Breakfast Club
Social Media Breakfast Club meetings will start to meet on the first Wednesday of every month! For October 7th, the focus will be on hashtags. Registration starts at 7:45 a.m. at BenLees's, with the meeting from 8 to 9 a.m. Cost for the 7 months of information and light breakfast refreshments for all sessions is $12.00. Don’t have time to leave the office or your business, but sill want to be connected to Social Media Breakfast training opportunities? Minnesota West Community & Technical College is offering the availability to have online access in being able to join the group in real time where you can interact with the speaker through chat and microphones on your computer. In order for this option to be available after the first session of SMB, a minimum of 2 participants have to be enrolled. Cost for the online option is $15.00.
October 7-10 - Nobles County Library Fall Book Sale
Stop out at the fall book sale at the Nobles County Library Wednesday, October 7th through Saturday, October 10th! The sale will be in the library conference room in the lower level during normal library hours.
October 9 - Murray County Senior Citizens Day
The Murray County Senior Citizens Day will be held Friday, October 9th at the St. Columba Hall in Iona. Activities begin at 2:30 p.m., with a presentation on Medicare Fraud at 4 p.m., music at 4:30 p.m., and a catered supper at 5 p.m. Enjoy chicken, meatballs, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, beverages and dessert for $8. October 10 - Bluejay Pork Chop Supper Fundraiser
The Bluejay Booster Club is hosting its annual pork chop supper fundraiser on Saturday, October 10th at the Elks Lodge in Worthington from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $10 per person.
October 10 - Banzaar and Bake Sale
You're invited to the Parkview Manor nursing home annual bazaar and bake sale on Saturday, October 10th at the Ellsworth High School from 9 to 1 p.m.
October 10 - Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser
The SW Minnesota Habitat for Humanity is hosting an Oktoberfest fundraiser on Saturday, October 10th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Take 16 Brewery in Luverne! Enjoy live music, great beer, and a rib feed with proceeds going back to Habitat for Humanity.
October 12 - Turkey Trotter Square Dance Club Session
The Turkey Trotter Square Dance Club is sponsoring a free, fun event on Monday Oct. 12 @ 6:00 pm at The Center For Active Living in downtown Worthington. There will be a light meal served, followed by an introduction to square dancing. Youth, Adults, Seniors, Couples and Singles are invited to join us to learn a fun and healthy activity. October 12-13 - "Ready! For Kindergarten Classes"
Will your child be “Ready! For Kindergarten” when the time comes? These FREE classes put on by the Nobles County Integration Collaborative are for all parents of children ages 0-5 in the Worthington district! Classes are fun, hands-on, and include FREE TOYS and materials! Classes take place October 12 & 13. Translators will be available. October 17 - Western Christian FFA Ag Feed
The Western Christian FFA students will be hosting a meal for ag producers on Saturday, October 17th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at a variety of local elevators. Those elevators include: Deluxe Feeds in Sheldon, Farmers Elevator Cooperative in Rock Valley, Valley Feed and Seed in Rock Valley, Doon Elevator, Hull Cooperative Association Elevator in Hull, and the Hartog Elevator in Sanborn. Burgers, chips, bars, and drink for just $5 donation. Donations will also be accepted for Western’s new FFA chapter.
October 21 - Annual Bison Feed
The Annual Bison Feed will be held on Wednesday, October 21st from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church.
October 22-24 - "Who's on First: A Nightmare Comedy"
The Grassroots Community Theatre presents "Who's on First: A Nightmare Comedy" at the Village Hall at Pioneer Village on October 22nd and 23rd at 7:30 p.m., and on the 24th at 10 a.m. Enjoy scenes of unexpected antics, preposterous situations, and more. Tickets are sold at the door for $10 per person.
October 23-24 - Immanuel CRC Fundraiser

October 30 - Trunk 'n' Treat
It's Luverne's 3rd Annual Halloween Trunk 'n' Treat on Friday, October 30th from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Main from Freeman to McKenzie! Enjoy a safe way for children to walk down the center of the street with Chamber members handing out candy from their trunks.
October 31 - Mystery Dinner Show
Tickets are on sale at the Comfort Suites for a Murder Mystery Dinner Show called Totally 80’s Totally Murder! The Mystery Dinner Show will take place at the Worthington Event Center on Saturday, October 31st. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with cash bar & appetizers. Show will begin at 7:00 p.m. A buffet dinner will be served after Act 1 and dessert served after Act 2. Cash bar & music after the show. Prizes will be awarded for best 80’s costume!
October 31-November 1 - Gun and Knife Show
The 2015 Gun and Knife Show will be held October 31st from 9 to 5 p.m. and on November 1st from 9 to 3 p.m. at the Windom Community Center. Find more details and registration forms at windomchamber.com
