Weekly "Bingo Night" 
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.

Divorce Care
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.  Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.

Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. Senior Dances
Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!

Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.


April 24 - May 1 - Nobles County Historical Society Open Forums

The Nobles County Historical Society (NCHS) has scheduled a series of open forums to discuss how the Society and local residents can best work together to preserve their community's unique heritage. The meetings will be:

  • Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at Lismore City Hall 
  • Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at Adrian City Council Chambers.

April 23 - Regional Weather Spotter Training

A Nobles County Regional Weather Spotter Training will be held Wednesday, April 23rd at 7 p.m. at the Minnesota West (Worthington) campus Fine Arts Theatre. Training is intended for potential storm spotters or anyone interested in learning more about severe weather and how to prepare for it. This training course is open to the public and free of charge. April 23 - Social Media Breakfast Club
The Social Media Breakfast club is back at BenLee's for another fun and educational seminar from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. This month's meeting will cover blogging and if its right for your organization or business. Be sure to pre-register by emailing

April 23 - World Book Night
It's World Book Night! Join the Nobles County and Jackson County Libraries for a great time at 6:30 p.m. at the lobby of the Fine Arts Building at the Worthington Minnesota West campus.

April 24 - Red Cross Blood Mobile
The American Red Cross Blood Mobile will be in the Worthington area at the American Reformed Church on Thursday, April 24th from 1 to 7 p.m. The need is constant and the gratification is instant! April 24 - Neil Linscheid Presentation
Rural communities are not all about agriculture. Statistics suggest that fewer than 10% of rural Minnesotans are engaged in agriculture. Communities need to understand this statistic when making decisions about their future. The main reasons people move to rural Minnesota are not jobs. Its slower pace of life, safety and security, and the low cost of housing. How do employers tap into these things to attract recruits? April 24 - "Hymn for the Christian Life"
Modern hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty will present "Hymn for the Christian Life" at 7 p.m. at the Luverne American Reformed Church. Tickets are available online at, at the Southwest Minnesota Christian High School office, or at the church office.

April 25 - Pack 143 Recruitment Night

April 25 - Arbor Day Ceremony
The Community Improvement Committee of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Worthington will be holding an Arbor Day Ceremony on Friday, April 25, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. Each year the Community Improvement Committee works with the City of Worthington to select a location where a tree will be planted during the program. This year the committee will be planting a tree at the Center for Active Living, 211 11th Street. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. A proclamation will be read by Mayor Pro Tem, Ron Wood.

April 25 - Spring Star Party
Come enjoy a Spring Star Party on Friday, April 25th at 9 p.m. at the softball diamonds (on the southwest side of the Worthington Minnesota West campus). Telescopes will be set up to view the Moon, Jupiter, Mars, and other wonders in the spring sky. No equipment or knowledge is needed, and there is no cost to attend! For questions, call 507-372-3432

April 26 - Lakefield Fire Department Annual Open House
The Lakefield Fire Department’s annual open house, dance and raffle will take place Saturday, April 26.The open house will start at 11 a.m. that day in the fire hall and go to 1 p.m., with firefighters serving a meal of pork burgers, chips, beans and all the fixings. Bring the kids, as the fire department will offer rides on the fire engines. All firefighting equipment will be displayed as well. In addition, a dance begins at 7:30 that evening at the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall. General raffle tickets will be available at the dance, with special raffle tickets available now from any of the Lakefield firemen.

The Boy Scout Troop 143 Pork Chop Supper will be held Saturday, April 26th at the Worthington Elks Lodge from 5 to 8 p.m. Serving includes pork chops, baked potato, applesauce, salad, and beverages for $9 per person. April 26 - Lorie Line in Concert
Pianist Lorie Line will be coming to town with her Fab Five and a brand new spring show. April 26-27 - Annual Gun Show
The 9th Annual Worthington Gun Show is coming up April 26th and 27th at the Worthington Arena on the Nobles County Fairgrounds. Saturday, hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with Sunday hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come look, buy, sell, and trade! Cost is $5 per person with children under 18 not admitted unless accompanied by an adult. April 27 - Annual Quartet Concert
The 17th Annual Quartet concert will begin at 6 p.m. April 27 at the Worthington American Reformed Church. Quartets from Iowa, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Worthington are on the program. A free-will offering will be taken for the Worthington Christian Ministerial Association. Refreshments will follow the program.


May 1 - National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer is coming up on May 1st. Everyone is welcome to join in a prayer for our Nation on the Worthington Government Center lawn from noon to 1 p.m. In addition, a concert of prayer and praise for the nation will be held at 7 p.m. that evening at the Grace Community Church. May 1 - "Community Conversation about Childhood"
Join a community conversation about childhood with Katy Smith, 2011 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. A free presentation will be held on Thursday, May 1, at the Windom High School Lecture Hall from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The program is for parents, day care providers, teachers, professionals who work with children and families, and community members. CEUs available.

May 3 - Sioux County Oratiorio Chorus Performance
Join the Sioux County Oratorio Chorus for its upcoming performance of Beethoven’s Mass in C Major on Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel at Northwestern College. Tickets for adults are $8 in advance/$10 at the door and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at Northwestern’s box office or the Dove Bookstore in Orange City, at True Vine or the Dordt music office in Sioux Center, and in Sheldon at Touch of Hope

May 3 - Community Prayer Breakfast
The Worthington Community Prayer Breakfast will be held Saturday, May 3 at 8 a.m. at the Worthington American Reformed Church, featuring Sandy Jerstad as the guest speaker. Cost is $10 for breakfast and speaker. Tickets can be purchased at Ax Photo, Dr. Roger Johnson, Chamber of Commerce, or from any Early Rise Kiwanis members.

May 3 - Kilen Woods Spring Cleanup Day
A spring clean up day at Kilen Woods is set for Saturday, May 3. All volunteers are welcome! Volunteers will clean picnic shelters, fix existing structures, brush trails and pick up litter. Cleaning goes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A FREE lunch will be served by Federated.

May 4 - Junk Mail Art Presentation
Do you hate junk mail? See it turned into art at the Nobles County Art Center, with the main opening on Sunday, May 4th at 2 p.m., with it featured weekdays from 2 to 4:30 p.m. for the month of May. There is no cost to attend.

May 4 - "Classy Classics and More" Music Concert
The Worthington Brass Quintet and the Great Plains String Quartet will perform on Sunday, May 4th at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The public is invited and a free-will offering will be taken.

May 9 - Legislative Webcast
A Legislative Webcast will be held on May 9th from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Worthington Chamber of Commerce Office. The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce lobbying team provides a fifteen minute update on the latest happenings at the Capitol followed by questions from the Chamber members participating.

May 10 - SW Minnesota Fishing Tournament/Banquet
The Annual Southwest Minnesota Fishing Club Tournament is back for another year on Saturday, May 10th! Weigh-ins take place at the Elks Lodge,with the banquet social from 5:30 to 7 p.m., meal at 7 p.m. (prime rib) and banquet to follow. To wrap up the evening, enjoy an after-party at the Worthington VFW with a live DJ. Tickets are available for purchase from all board members! Come on out for a great time and help raise funds for new projects from the SW Minnesota Fishing Cub!

May 14 - WHS Baccalaureate Service
Everyone is invited to the WHS gymnasium on Wed., May 14 at 7 PM for the WHS Baccalaureate service. This worship service is led by graduating seniors as a Christian send off ceremony. All seniors are asked to arrive by 6:45 PM and should wear their graduation gown without their caps. The entire community is encouraged to come show their support

May 15 - Center for Active Living Open House
The Center for Active Living is celebrating its one-year-anniversary with an open house on Thursday, May 15th from 1 to 7 p.m. Mayor Oberloh and the City Council are slated to speak at 1 p.m., with Amanda Walljasper-Tate presenting a conversation on "Health Naturally" at 2 p.m. Stay for the pool tournament (double elimination team play, entry fee $10 per team or $5 single)! May 19 - Red Cross Blood Drive
The American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the Sheldon First Reformed Church on Washington Avenue, on Monday, May 19 from 1 to 6:00. May 19 - SCAT Fundraiser
The Sheldon Ambulance Team is hosting their annual fundraiser supper from 5 to 7 p.m. at the NCC's LLRC building. Tickets are $7 in advance for adults, $5 for children or $8 at the door for adults, $6 for children. Proceeds go towards purchasing a power lift. June 7 - YMCA Color Dash 5K
Start thinking about registering for the YMCA's 2nd Color Dash 5K event coming up Saturday, June 7th. Packet pickup will start at 8 a.m. with the Dash starting at 10 a.m. (at the corner of 10th street and 2nd avenue). Registration is now open! Go to to sign up! June 20 - Documentary Premiere
The premiere of the documentary “Abuelos y Nietos Juntos: Two Generations Together” will be June 20th, 2014 at the Worthington Event Center. July 3 - Independence Day Celebration
The whole family is invited to the Village Northwest Unlimited Annual Independence Da y Celebration in Sheldon on July 3rd! Starting at 5 p.m., enjoy a night of carnival games, horse drawn wagon rides, fire truck rides, jumping castles, a ferris wheel, kettlecorn, food, and fireworks. Featured entertainer Casey Muessigman from the hit TV show ‘The Voice’ will perform on the main stage. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:45 PM
