Weekly "Bingo Night"
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.
Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. To sign up, visit the City of Worthington Public Safety webpage.
Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!
Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.
Free Dental Implants
Mission Outreach a division of Four Square Enterprises is offering free dental implants by a licensed dentist here in Minnesota for qualified applicants that are seeking employment but are lacking the confidence and self esteem needed. Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed
The Business Education Committee is still seeking volunteers to teach Junior Achievement. They are in need of (5) kindergarten volunteers, (4) first grade volunteers, (1) third grade volunteer and (1) fourth grade volunteer. July 1 - Young Professionals Outing
The Worthington Area Young Professionals Network is hosting a potluck and outdoor games on July 1st at Centennial Park starting around 5:30 p.m. (rain or shine). July 2 - Virtual Dementia Tour
On July 2, 2015 the Center for Active Living will again be hosting a Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT). The VDT is a unique, interactive program proven to improve communication and care of individuals with dementia. The community Edition Kit was developed to provide a way for members of the community to experience in a unique hands on way to gain insight and empathy for those with dementia. There is a $5 fee to cover supplies and the resource booklet given to each participant. Two CEU’s are available for a $10.00 fee. A free will donation will also be collected to support the research efforts of Second Wind Dreams, the creator of the VDT program.
July 3 - Radio Works Beach Bash '15
The Radio Works Beach Bash '15 is coming up Friday July 3rd at the Worthington Centennial Park. This is a free event and open to the public, kicking off with kids' activities at 3 p.m. (includes ring toss and bouncy houses). For the adults, enjoy a beer garden from 5 to 11 p.m., plus concessions. Don't forgot to check out the free watermelon feed from 5:30 p.m. until gone. DJ Barry Roberts will be spinning tunes throughout the afternoon, leading right up to the free Chris Hawkey concert, which starts at 7 p.m. Be sure to stay for the fireworks display at dusk (approximately 10 p.m.!).
July 4 - Pioneer Village Old-Fashioned Fourth of July
The Pioneer Village Old-Fashioned Fourth of July will run Saturday, July 4th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Various demonstrations and vendors will be on the show grounds, with the 28th Annual Melodrama performances at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the large barn. There will also be kiddie train rides, a kiddie pedal pull, a tractor pull and parade, plus afternoon watermelon feed.
July 6 - Zumbathon Fundraiser
The International Festival will be holding a Zumbathon Fundraiser on Monday, July 6th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Active Living in Downtown Worthington. Cost is $5.00 per person and all proceeds go directly to the International Festival.
July 9- Taste of Worthington
In conjunction with the International Festival there will be a Taste of Worthington event at the Center for Active Living on Thursday, July 9 at 6:00 p.m. The event will feature ethnic desserts for $1.00 each. At 6:30 p.m. a presentation of Letters from German American Farmer, followed by a musical performance by local youth.
July 9-11 - Edgerton Dutch Festival
The Edgerton Dutch Festival is Thursday through Saturday, July 9th through the 11th. Enjoy the Midway, tournaments, cruise-in, talent show, bull riding, parade, sausage and pancake feed and more! Find additional details at www.edgertonmn.com/events or find the Edgerton Dutch Festival on Facebook!
July 11-12 - Murray County Classic Draft Show
The Murray County Classic Draft Show returns horsepower to the Murray County Fairgrounds in Slayton, featuring the workhorses of yesteryear and highlighting today's draft horses. Gates open both days at 9 a.m., with farm team demonstrations at 10 a.m. Saturday, and farm team competitions and the draft show on Sunday. There will also be a children's barn available. July 15 - Community Blood Bank Blood Drive
Community Blood Bank will host an All American community blood drive on Wednesday, July 15 from 7:00 am to 10:30 am and 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Sunshine Grocery Store in Rock Rapids, IA. July 18 - Indian Lake Progressives' Wild 5K Run/Walk
The Indian Lake Progressives' Wild 5K Run/Walk will take place Saturday, July 18th at the Brewster City Park. Registration starts at 7 a.m. with the 5K beginning at 8 a.m. Cost is $15 if registered before July 9th (only pre-registered are guaranteed a shirt) with the cost the day of the race $20. July 24-25 - Lake Pahoja Youth Triathalon/Adult Triathalon/5K Fun Run/Walk
