Minnesota Finalizes Move to B10

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Diesel drivers on Minnesota roads and highways will be running on cleaner fuel this summer as they start filling up with the nation’s first, required 10 percent biodiesel blend. Known as B10, this higher blend will be sold annually from April 1 through September 30. A five percent mixture that works better in Minnesota’s winter weather, called B5, will be used between October and late March each year.

U of M Hail Clinic

A hail clinic is coming up on Monday, June 23rd. University of Minnesota Extension Agronomists Dr. Seth Naeve and Dr. Jeff Coulter along with Extension Educators Liz Stahl and Mike Boersma will be on hand to answer questions on managing crops damaged by the June 16th storm that went across Southern MN.

Free MN State Park Admission on National Get Outdoors Day

Minnesota state parks celebrate National Get Outdoors Day with free admission and family fun on June 14!

The Department of Natural Resources will waive the requirement for a vehicle permit ($5 one-day or $25 year-round) and provide free admission at all 75 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas on Saturday, June 14 in celebration of National Get Outdoors Day. The goal of National Get Outdoors Day is to introduce first-time visitors, especially families with young children, to the fun of outdoor recreation at state parks, state trails, fishing piers and other public lands.

Phone Scam Claiming FSA Relations

It has been brought to the attention of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) that a phone scam is being perpetrated on FSA customers.

The caller, who identifies themselves as a Farm Loan Services representative out of Washington, D.C. states that FSA “owes” you disaster assistance funds and proceeds to request your checking account information or requests a credit card number alleging that funds will be credited to these accounts.

SHOULD YOU RECEIVE A SIMILAR CALL, DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, PROVIDE PERSONAL OR FINANCIAL INFORMATION TO THE CALLER.

Top Minnesota Dairy Herds (SCC Ranking)

In honor of June Dairy Month, Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Dave Frederickson today released the annual list of top Minnesota dairy herds with low somatic cell counts (SCC). Somatic cell count is a key indicator of milk quality – a lower SCC count is better for cheese production and a longer shelf life. This year, 115 dairy farms are being recognized for superior herd management skills by achieving an average under 100,000 SCC.

Minnesota First State to Move to B10

Mankato, Minn.—Minnesota is cementing its role as a leader in the biodiesel industry by becoming the first state to move to a 10 percent biodiesel blend (B10) in its diesel fuel supply. Beginning July 1, diesel fuel sold in Minnesota will contain a B10 blend during the summer months.
