ROUND LAKE – Residents of the Round Lake – Brewster School District are encouraged Tuesday to head to the polls and vote on whether or not to consolidate the districts into one.
Currently, the two districts are separate, and student projections show both would be in unstable financial positions by the end of the 2014-2015 school year. If that were to happen, further consolidation efforts would be prohibited by the Minnesota Department of Education, causing both districts to dissolve. WORTHINGTON – The Worthington Police Department on Wednesday investigated a report of a pick-up stolen from in front of a local business. Authorities first received a call stating a man wearing jeans and a black sweatshirt had just kicked a female resident’s front door shortly before 7 a.m. and could then be seen standing in front of a car wash on Oxford Street. A second 911 call reported a man with the same description had just stolen a pick-up from in front of Bahr Small Engine. The vehicle was recovered by the Clary Street Apartments.
WORTHINGTON – Nobles County Commissioners Tuesday approved two conditional use permits – one for Ocheda Dairy of Worthington, and one for Andy Weiss of Adrian.
Ocheda Dairy, on recommendation from the county’s planning and zoning commission, was given permission to construct an underground pipeline for liquid manure. Approximately one-half mile of underground manure pipeline will be constructed on environmentally sensitive ground, while the remainder of the pipeline will continue to be above ground at this time. The pipeline involves several sections of Bigelow Township.
SHELDON, Iowa – An early morning fire at White Wolf Web in Sheldon, Iowa destroyed the building Tuesday that prints several publications, including the Northwest Iowa Review, the Gazette-Tribune and Okoboji Magazine. The blaze, reported at 1:20 a.m., caused major damage and brought out the Sheldon Fire Department and three mutual aid departments from Ashton, Boyden and Sanborn. White Wolf Web, located at 300 Second Avenue and owned by Peter Wagner, is part of the Iowa Information Group.
WORTHINGTON – Executive Director for the Minnesota West Foundation Jim Smalley announced Monday the capital campaign for the Center for Health and Wellness on the Worthington Campus of Minnesota West has passed the $100,000 mark. The goal for the renovation and new building of the facility is $400,000.

PIPESTONE – Physician’s Assistant Dan Woldt of Slayton has been hired at the Pipestone County Medical Center. Woldt will fill a position left vacant by the departure of Melissa Scotting and help fill in at the Edgerton clinic during the six month medical leave of Dr. Matthew Viel. Woldt, who worked for the Murray County Medical Center, is currently involved in a civil lawsuit against the Slayton facility and its CEO, Mel Snow.

RUSHMORE – After a manure spill Wednesday in Nobles County, water samples taken from a gravel pit in Little Rock Township will be sent to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for analysis to determine if contamination exists. According to Nobles County Environmental Services Director Wayne Smith, the spill has been contained with a dirt berm and some round bales.

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Area YMCA and City of Worthington Aquatics Center outdoor pool is undergoing minor repairs related to winter-weather related cracking and will open as soon as the repairs are finished and weather permits.
