Worthington City Council approves defunding, closing Prairie View Golf Links


WORTHINGTON – The Worthington City Council on Monday unanimously approved a motion to discontinue the funding for Prairie View Golf Links, close the course, and move forward with plans to sell or auction off equipment. The motion also included putting together a committee that included council members to determine the best usage of the course, with emphasis on water quality.

WORTHINGTON – Sanford Worthington Medical Center has recently hired three new therapists in the rehab department - Kyle Rockwell, physical therapist, Kayla White, speech therapist and Kaylee Koob, occupational therapist.

Rockwell earned his doctorate of physical therapy in 2014 at Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio. He has had clinical experiences in several settings, is originally from Salem, Ohio, and moved to Minnesota after graduating in 2014. He currently resides in Spirit Lake, Iowa, with his fiancé.

WORTHINGTON – District 518 Superintendent Jon Landgaard met with the Nobles County Commissioners this week to talk about the future. With him he brought a list of needs the school district has, and front and center on that list was the need for a new high school, because right now, each school in the district is bursting at the seams.

FULDA – Seven people, including five children, sustained non-life threatening injuries Wednesday evening when one vehicle rear-ended another on U.S. 59 near Fulda, according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol.

The report states two vehicles were southbound at approximately 5:42 p.m. when Jacob Nolt, age 28, of Slayton, in a 2007 Honda Civic, rear-ended Melvi Garcia Escalante, age 28, of Fulda, who was driving a 2003 Buick Rendezvous. WORTHINGTON – Abraham Algadi of the Worthington Regional Economic Development Corporation spoke to the Nobles County Commissioners on Tuesday, asking of the board the same thing he asked of the Worthington City Council last month – to stay out of the way.

Rock County Sheriff's Office seeks suspects in credit card theft


LUVERNE – The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying two suspects who used stolen credit cards.

The credits cards were stolen out of vehicles in Hardwick on October 3, and used by the suspects in Luverne and in Sioux Falls, SD the same evening they were stolen. The sheriff's office has released images of the suspects involved. One of the suspects is a white man wearing a black sweatshirt, the other is a white woman who appears to be pregnant.

WORTHINGTON – Worthington City Administrator Steve Robinson and Nobles County Administrator Tom Johnson have been meeting regularly to discuss a number of subjects, one of which has been to keep each other informed on any updates regarding the proposed Promenade on Oxford development on the old mall site. PIPESTONE – The Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office and the Sioux Falls Police Department continue their respective investigations into incidents that occurred Thursday night and Friday in Sioux Falls and Pipestone, but in the meanwhile, Fredrick James McAbee is being held in the Pipestone County Jail on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping and more.

WORTHINGTON – The arrest of an alleged methamphetamine dealer through the use of a confidential informant led to charges being brought against four more meth users, all of whom were charged with felony drug possession Thursday afternoon in Nobles County District Court.

Tanya Kay Stern, age 40, of Round Lake, Ricky Ybarra, age 33, of Lakefield, Rose Kallemeyn, age 23, of Bigelow, and Brady Bern, age 24, of Worthington, were each charged with fifth-degree controlled substance possession. All but Kallemeyn were also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
