WORTHINGTON – During a special session before the regularly scheduled meeting Monday evening, the Worthington City Council reviewed potential candidates for the position of administrator as presented by executive search firm Brimeyer Fursman.

Dr. Richard Fursman presented a dozen candidates by number. WORTHINGTON — Mark Brodin has been contracted to serve as the new technical director for Memorial Auditorium Performing Arts Center.

Brodin is a regional Emmy award-winning documentary video producer and technical audio video services provider who found his niche in live theater. He has provided technical design and execution for thousands of performances at the Chanhassen Dinner Theaters, the Medora Musical and the Plymouth Playhouse.

WORTHINGTON – The strip mall at 1151 Ryan’s Road is under new ownership, a fourth generation commercial real estate company focused on shopping center development, acquisition, commercial and residential land development. Schostak Brothers and Company Inc. was established in 1920 and is based in Livonia, Michigan.

WORTHINGTON – The Worthington City Council met Wednesday morning in special session to discuss several items, including a closed meeting regarding litigation surrounding the Northland Mall. According to Interim City Administrator Brad Chapulis, they are working on the finalization of the court ordered assessment of the mall.

There was also discussion regarding two possible annexations – one south of the city in Worthington Township between the old Beltline and the new Minnesota 60, the other east of the city in Lorain Township, just south of Smith Trucking.

WORTHINGTON – Nobles County Commissioners on Tuesday took a look at how township road funds are allocated, comparing the current system of considering a township’s levy, population and road mileage to a system that other counties in the area use by allocating 50 percent of the funds based on mileage and 50 percent based on population.

Federal judge blocks Obama's executive action on immigration

A federal judge in Texas has blocked President Obama's executive action on immigration, giving Texas and 25 other states time to pursue a lawsuit that aims to permanently stop the orders.

U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen’s decision comes after a hearing in Brownsville, Texas, in January and puts on hold Obama’s order, which could protect millions of immigrants who are here illegally from being deported.

WORTHINGTON – Residents of Worthington are being asked to use Wikimapping as a tool to help the Southwest Regional Development Commission and the city identify safety issues in town when it comes to walking and biking.

WORTHINGTON - Comfort Suites in Worthington was recently awarded the Gold Award from Choice Hotels, an honor given to hotels that score well on guest surveys in the areas of guest service, staff service, cleanliness and condition of rooms. In addition to guest opinions, an independent firm inspects the property twice a year to ensure the property is up to standards.

In order to be considered at the gold level, a property must place in the top 10 percent of properties that carry the Comfort Suites brand.
