WORTHINGTON - Oliver Wolyniec of Worthington High School was named the 2015 statewide Class AA male recipient of the Minnesota State High School League Triple “A” award at the 27th annual awards banquet in Minneapolis on Saturday.

Heidi Bau of Murray County Central was selected as the 2015 Class A female Triple “A” recipient, becoming the first MCC student in the program’s history to achieve the state title.

PAUL – Seventy-five railway safety projects at Minnesota’s most dangerous and congested rail crossings – four in Pipestone - would be completed statewide, if a proposal from Governor Mark Dayton is passed this session. Smith Avenue house damaged in overnight fire

WORTHINGTON – A house that suffered significant damage during an overnight fire is most likely repairable, according to Worthington Fire Chief Rick von Holt. The Worthington Fire Department was paged at 12:50 a.m. this morning to 1304 Smith Avenue for a report of a house fire.

According to von Holt, smoke was coming out of the roof vents when firefighters arrived at the scene. All of the residents had gotten out of the house at that time. WORTHINGTON – The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for this afternoon for southwest Minnesota and east central South Dakota. High fire danger is expected this afternoon, however, very high fire danger is expected along and south of the Interstate 90 corridor due to strong winds and low humidity. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

While snow melt has left the ground somewhat saturated and moist, abundant prairie grass and brush is very dry and conducive to burning.

WORTHINGTON - People wishing to make a contribution to the Manna Food Pantry during the March Food Campaign will be able to help stretch those dollars a little further by simply writing a check to the Worthington Regional Health Care Foundation instead. Joint investigation in Pipestone leads to two arrests

PIPESTONE – Two search warrants were executed in the city of Pipestone Monday afternoon as the result of a joint investigation between the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force, the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the United States Postal Service and the High Risk Entry and Arrest Team.

WORTHINGTON – The Worthington City Council on Monday held a public hearing regarding the sale of four lots at the Bioscience Industrial Park to Bioverse Inc. through its established land acquisition policy.

The plan is for Bioverse to construct a 15,700 square foot office and manufacturing facility to permanently house the company’s operation.
