Ready for roundabouts?
Published by onWORTHINGTON – Citizens who are nervous about navigating the new roundabouts in Worthington can take an online tutorial, courtesy of the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Videos on roundabouts and how to use them are available at www.dot.state.mn.us/roundabouts.
The first Worthington roundabout opened today on Highway 60 after a long period of construction. The last chunk of detour around the UP bridge was removed, and the highway will be smooth sailing until spring, when the last phase of construction commences. Two additional roundabouts and a signalized intersection will be added when weight restrictions are lifted in the spring.
Driving Tips from MnDOT
Prior to the roundabout watch for signing for lane assignments.
When approaching a roundabout, slow down and get into the appropriate lane.
Yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk. They have the right-of-way.
When entering a roundabout, yield to traffic in all circular lanes. Merge when it is safe.
Continue through the roundabout until you reach your exit. Do not stop or pass in a roundabout.
When exiting, yield to pedestrians.
