WORTHINGTON – Vice-Chair Gene Metz took a turn at running the show during the absence of Chair Matt Widboom during a Nobles County Commissioners meeting Tuesday morning that moved along fairly quickly.

KTD Board announces this year's theme as "Turkey Town Take Down"


WORTHINGTON – The King Turkey Day Board of Directors has announced the theme for the 76th annual King Turkey Day as “Turkey Town Take Down.”

As previously announced, this years’ featured speaker is Dan Gable, a 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist, former University of Iowa Wrestling Coach and US Olympic Head Coach - making the theme “Turkey Town Take Down” a natural fit.

LUVERNE – Two people from Florida received non-life threatening injuries Monday while traveling through Luverne on a motorcycle when they hit a dog in the roadway, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Larry Neal, age 56, of Ormond Beach, Florida, was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson north on Highway 75 near the Luverne Airport at approximately 12:30 p.m. when the motorcycle collided with the dog. LAKE WILSON – A Chandler man received non –life threatening injuries in the early morning hours Saturday when the motorcycle he was driving near Lake Wilson struck a deer. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Wyatt Thaemert, age 38, of Chandler, was westbound on Highway 30 near mile marker 29 on a 1995 Honda Road Star at approximately 12:52 a.m. when he struck a deer in the middle of the westbound lane of the highway. He was taken by Murray County Ambulance to the Murray County Medical Center for treatment. Damage to the motorcycle was severe.

WORTHINGTON — With Independence Day on Saturday, some local businesses and offices as well as all federal, state, county and city offices will be closed Friday in observance of the holiday.

Financial institutions will be open Friday, but closed Saturday. The Nobles County Library and the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce will be closed both days. The Worthington post office will be closed Saturday and there will be no mail delivery.

KTD Inc. announces country music duo Love & Theft for King Turkey Day celebration


WORTHINGTON – King Turkey Day, Inc. has announced country music duo Love &Theft will play will play at this year’s King Turkey Day celebration on Saturday, September 19 at the Worthington Hockey Arena on the Nobles County Fairgrounds.

Love & Theft first impressed fans in 2009 with a top 10 hit “Runaway” from debut album World Wide Open. Love & Theft’s second album included “Angel Eyes,” “Running out of Air” and “If You Ever Get Lonely.”

WORTHINGTON - Nominations from county residents are now being sought for the 2015 Outstanding Senior Citizen Award for Nobles County. The award recognizes outstanding senior citizens who have contributed their time and talent to benefit their community after reaching the age of 65. LoVan makes brief court appearance


WORTHINGTON – Chim LoVan, who is accused of stabbing 19-year-old Blue Thyboualoy June 19 in Worthington, made his first appearance in Nobles County District Court Tuesday with his public defender Louis Kuchera.

LoVan, age 46, was charged June 22 with second-degree murder and second-degree assault. Thyboualoy, who was stabbed shortly after 3 a.m., did not seek medical attention at the time of the alleged assault. Authorities were alerted to a man who had been assaulted at approximately 6 p.m. that evening, and Thyboualoy named “Monkey,” LoVan’s alias, as his attacker.
