WORTHINGTON — Nobles County Regional Weather Spotter Training will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Fine Arts Theater at Minnesota West Community and Technical College, Worthington campus.

Sponsored by the National Weather Service, Nobles County Emergency Management and Worthington Fire Department, the training is intended for storm spotters or potential storm spotters or anyone interested in learning more about severe weather and how you can better prepare yourself when severe weather approaches.

Ag Commissioner confirms avian influenza in Nobles County

WORTHINGTON – During his visit to Worthington Thursday, Minnesota Department of Agriculture Commissioner Dave Frederickson confirmed that a fourth case of pathogenic avian influenza in a commercial poultry flock had been confirmed in Minnesota. According to Frederickson, the H5N2 was confirmed in Nobles County after the farmer noticed the increase in death loss on one of his barns.

WORTHINGTON – The Worthington Fire Department battled two house fires simultaneously on Wednesday afternoon as the high winds caused the flames at 709 Pershing Blvd to spread quickly to the house next door, 713 Pershing. According to fire chief Rick von Holdt, the first house was already too far gone to save when firefighters arrived on scene, so they concentrated their efforts on the second home.

WORTHINGTON - Gov. Mark Dayton will visit Worthington on Thursday for a public meeting to discuss his proposal to establish an additional 125,000 acres of water quality buffer strips statewide. The legislation would require 50-foot water quality buffer strips around Minnesota’s lakes, rivers and streams.

ELLSWORTH – The Minnesota State Patrol has not yet released the name of a person killed in a broadside crash between two pickup trucks near Ellsworth Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 91 and Nobles County Road 6.

According to the information that has been released so far, Brock Jacobs, 25, of Adrian, was driving a 2008 Ford Super Duty and pulling a trailer loaded with a Skid Steer. ELLSWORTH – The driver of a pickup killed in a broadside crash Monday near Ellsworth was identified by the Minnesota State Patrol as 59-year-old Steven Hup of Luverne.
