Heroes Behind the Badges blood drive Tuesday

WORTHINGTON – Worthington / Nobles County Law Enforcement and Worthington Fire Department / EMS will be competing to see who can recruit the most blood donors to boost the summer blood supply for the community in the 8th annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood drive Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. at Sanford Worthington Medical Center. The public is encouraged to come in to donate and designate their donation to the department of their choice. All donors will receive a free Subway meal at the time of donation and a t-shirt. The department credited with the most blood donations will receive a trophy and bragging rights for a year.

According to Community Blood Bank Executive Director Ken Versteeg, the summer’s blood supply has been challenged with several traumas and a decrease of donations of 25 percent. Community Blood Bank is the sole blood provider for Sanford Worthington and 28 other local hospitals.

Donors must be 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health the day of the blood drive. Please bring an ID. It is recommended to eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood. For more information or to make an appointment please call 372-3319. Walk-ins are welcome.
