MNsure to unveil insurance plans and rates today

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesotans today will get their first view of the new health insurance plans and rates that will be sold on the state's new online insurance marketplace, MNsure. More than 1 million Minnesotans are expected to use MNsure to obtain health coverage starting in about three weeks.

State regulators want to give consumers some time to peruse the new health plans and their costs before MNsure opens for business Oct. 1. Then, Minnesotans will be able to use MNsure to enroll in those commercial health plans or government health programs such as Medicaid and MinnesotaCare.

One of the biggest questions under the health care law is whether consumers will experience sticker shock. Since the federal health care law passed more than three years ago, there's been wide speculation about how the overhaul will change health plans and their cost. Whether an individual will have to pay more than in previous years will likely depend on the plan's coverage levels and the person's eligibility for federal subsidies.

The site is for consumers who will enroll in Medicaid, buy insurance on their own or as part of a small business. The site can be found at
