WORTHINGTON – All of the victims of the van rollover just west of Worthington Thursday morning were JBS workers, according to a JBS employee. The victims are some of the approximately 200 people who make the drive from Sioux Falls, SD to Worthington each day to go to work.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, of the 15 people involved in a van rollover Thursday morning just west of Worthington on I-90, several were ejected from the vehicle and 11 received non-life threatening injuries. A Chevrolet Express passenger van was westbound on I-90 near mile marker 42 when it crashed at approximately 1:40 a.m. Four of the passengers of the Chevy Express received serious injuries. All 15 of the victims in the crash were from Sioux Falls, and range in age from 22 to 52 years old.

Earlier today, the state patrol website listed all of the victims as male, but has since been updated to state five of the victims were female. Of the four listed with serious injuries, one was female, the other three male.

Sgt. Jaci Sticha of the Minnesota State Patrol said the rollover was caused when the driver, 29-year-old Altayeb Arbab-Azzein of Sioux Falls, SD, encountered an icy spot on the road and lost control of the vehicle, hit the median and rolled. The van, which bears license plates from South Dakota, has a crushed roof on the rear passenger side and shows significant damage. Arbab Azzein and the front seat passenger were the only two not ejected from the vehicle. Sticha said it is as of yet unknown if the others were seatbelted.

The Worthington Fire Department and Adrian and Worthington Ambulances responded. Assisting the state patrol at the scene was the Worthington Police Department and Nobles County Sheriff’s Office.

I pray that those injured are

I pray that those injured are not life-threatening. Just to clarify though only about half were ejected, there were at least 1-2 females involved, and the van was traveling Westbound and not Eastbound as reported.
