Girl approached in Windom; police urge parents to talk about stranger danger

The Windom Police Department is asking parents to remind their kids to never accept rides from strangers following an incident Sunday evening.

According to authorities, an investigation is underway after an 8-year-old girl was allegedly approached by an unknown male at approximately 7:38 p.m. Sunday.

The male spoke with the girl along the roadway near Winfair School and told the girl that he was asked by her mother to pick her up. The child refused the ride with the suspicious male, and the parents confirmed that they had not sent anyone to pick her up.

The male was driving an older gold-colored 4-door car with damage to the driver’s side front of the car. The driver was described as being about 20 years old, black hair in a Mohawk, mustache, 6 feet tall, heavy set, and white with a tan or darker complexion.

There have been other recent reports of similar incidents in other towns in southwest Minnesota.

If you have any information regarding this case please contact the Windom Police Department at 507-831-6134.
