Gov. Dayton requests presidential disaster declaration

WORTHINGTON – Gov. Mark Dayton Wednesday requested that President Barack Obama declare a major disaster in Minnesota as a result of heavy rainstorms and flooding that began June 11. In a letter to the president, Dayton described widespread flood damage across Minnesota, and noted that he has expanded the state’s peacetime state of emergency to include 16 additional counties – bringing the total counties impacted to 51.


Dybevick named Chief Deputy for Nobles County

WORTHINGTON – After a lot of years dressed in blue Worthington Police Captain Chris Dybevick will soon be switching to brown. The Nobles County Commissioners today approved a request from Nobles County Sheriff Kent Wilkening to replace the recently retired Chris Heinrichs with Dybevick, hiring him away from the police department after 27 years with WPD and over to the sheriff’s office in the position of chief deputy.


Peebles pulls out of Northland Mall

WORTHINGTON – Customers looking for a bargain were flocking to Peebles at Northland Mall Monday as word got out that everything was on clearance.

Peebles is the latest store to pull out of the troubled mall. Signs on the front of the building state the store is closing and everything must go. According to a sales associate, Peebles employees were informed last week that the store was closing, and clearance sales began Saturday. The store is expected to be out of the mall by the end of the month.


Minnesota Finalizes Move to B10

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Diesel drivers on Minnesota roads and highways will be running on cleaner fuel this summer as they start filling up with the nation’s first, required 10 percent biodiesel blend. Known as B10, this higher blend will be sold annually from April 1 through September 30. A five percent mixture that works better in Minnesota’s winter weather, called B5, will be used between October and late March each year.


Bluejay Golf Scramble

The annual Minnesota West Bluejay Golf Scramble is coming up once again. The Bluejay Scramble will be held on Saturday, August 9th at the Worthington Country Club, starting with a shotgun start at 10:00am. It's 5-person teams with a donation of $50 dollars per golfer. That includes golfing, lunch, prizes and beverages.

Dudley finishes 8th in Class AA State Pole Vault

Worthington Trojan senior Will Dudley finished in 8th place at the Class AA State Track and Field Meet in the Pole Vault, clearing 13 feet even
