King Turkey Day Great Gobbler Golf Tournament


The 28th Annual King Turkey Day Great Gobbler Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 27th at the Worthington Country Club. 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. 18 hole scramble, 5 person team. Entry fee is $50.00 per golfer. Special Event prizes will be on each hole along with $10,000 hole-in-one prize on Hole #2. All proceeds will go toward King Turkey Day 2014. Guillotine Academic All-State Teams


The Guillotine has released their 2013-2014 Academic All-State Teams

Wrestlers, representing 66 teams, were submitted on nomination forms signed by a coach and school administrator verifying their current GPA (minimum of 3.0), number of current season varsity matches wrestled (minimum of fifteen), current season win percentage (minimum of 60%) and grade (junior or senior).

Points were tallied according to current varsity wins, current state tournament placement and cumulative high school GPA.

Former Trojan Aggen named JCC Girls Basketball Head Coach


Former Worthington Trojan Chris Aggen will be the new girls basketball coach at Jackson County Central. He will also teach physical education and health at the Jackson County Central Middle School in Lakefield. Aggen is a Worthington High School graduate and played college basketball at Minnesota West and Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall. He just finished a graduate assistantship at the University of Sioux Falls with the women's basketball program.

Former Adrian Dragon Jordon Kontz named NSIC Player of the Week


Southwest Minnesota State University senior infielder and former Adrian Dragon Jordon Kontz has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week for his performance in helping SMSU earn five victories last week.

A native of Lismore, Kontz led SMSU to a 5-1 record during the week and helped the Mustangs clinch a spot in the NSIC tournament for the first time since 2010.

Kontz batted .600 (12 for 20) with three doubles, a home run, nine RBIs, eight runs scored, an on-base percentage of .680 and a slugging percentage of .900. He was hit by three pitches...

Bents sets USF Shot Put record at Drake Relays


Former Worthington Trojan Jordon Bents continues to have a great junior season for the University of Sioux Falls Track And Field Team.

Bents finished 13th overall in the Shot Put with his NCAA provisional qualifying and USF school record toss of 55 feet, 3.5 inches (16.85m) at the Drake Relays. In addition to breaking the 21 year old school record, Bents mark is the 17th best mark in Division II and the second best mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season.

Changes coming to Worthington Football Schedule for 2014 and beyond


With the beginning of the new Big South Conference just on the horizon, there will be a new look to the Worthington Trojan Football team's schedule beginning next season.

The Big South Conference features teams from the Southwest Conference and the South Central Conference. Worthington's 2014 schedule will all be Big South Conference games, facing 4 teams from the former Southwest Conference and 4 from the former South Central Conference.

The 4 former Southwest Conference rivals the Trojans will face in 2014 will be Marshall, Windom, Redwood Valley and Luverne. So in 2014...

2 area athletes sign on to wrestle for SMSU


Two area athletes signed national letters of intent to continue their wrestling careers with the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs in Marshall.

Last week Worthington’s Anthony Luft signed on to wrestle for the Mustangs. Luft was a 4-time place winner at the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament. As a freshman, Luft finished in 6th place at the 103 pound weight class at the Class AA State Tournament. As a sophomore, Luft finished in 5th place at 106 pounds. Tiffany Gehl named a NJCAA All-American


Minnesota West Sophomore Tiffany Gehl continues to add awards to her list of accomplishments as the Fulda native has been named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III All-American

Tiffany Gehl was chosen as a First-Team All-American selection. Gehl averaged 22.9 points per game this season in helping to lead the Minnesota West Lady Jays to a 22-6 record and a runner-up finish in this year’s Region 13 tournament. Bents named NSIC Field Athlete of the Week


University of Sioux Falls thrower Jordon Bents was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Field Athlete of the Week by the conference office announced on Monday morning.

The Worthington, Minn. native came away with a third place finish in the Shot Put at the Wayne State Wildcat Classic in Wayne, Neb. on Saturday. Bents was the top Division II finisher at the meet and also holds the 17th best mark in Division II this season with his NCAA provisional qualifying launch of 52-10.25 (16.11m). The Minnesota Boys and Girls Basketball Coaches Association have released academic awards for the 2013-2014 season.

The Minnesota Boys Basketball Coaches Association has released their 2013-2014 Academic All-State Teams. In Class AAA & Class AAAA, Worthington’s Will Dudley was chosen as an Academic All-State Honorable Mention selection this season. In Class A & AA, Southwest Christian’s Leighton Sampson and Mountain Lake Area’s Carter Kirk were both Academic All-State Selections.
