Former Worthington Trojan girls basketball standout Martha Alwal continues to excel in her junior season with the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs.

Alwal has earned SEC Player of the Week honors after compiling 19 points and 9 rebounds in Mississippi State's 71-61 victory over Southern Mississippi. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 10-1 on the season, their best start since the 2008-2009 season.

Former Worthington Trojan Martha Alwal is re-writing the record books down at Mississippi State University. Alwal, now a junior with the Lady Bulldogs, has already broken the school’s all-time record for blocked shots in her career. With 3 blocked shots in the Lady Bulldogs only loss of the season to Middle Tennessee in the Championship Game at the Gulf Coast Showcase, Alwal broke the school record of 180 career blocked shots held by Chanel Mokango.

Tiffany Gehl named MCAC Player of the Week

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their weekly basketball awards, and Minnesota West's Tiffany Gehl has been named the MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week.

Gehl helped to lead the Minnesota West Lady Jays to pair of wins last week, averaging 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2 steals per game while shooting 54 percent from the floor in the two victories. MN West President Richard Shrubb speaks on football incident in Brainerd

WORTHINGTON – The Minnesota West Community and Technical College President Dr. Richard Shrubb last week filed an appeal with the Minnesota College Athletic Conference, asking that all MN West athletic teams not be penalized for the actions of just a few. Because of an incident that occurred Oct. 26 during and after a state quarterfinal football game in Brainerd, the MCAC had put all MN West teams on probation. Shrubb is instead asking that the football program face suspension during a period of review, leaving the other teams untouched.

Kirk signs Letter of Intent with SMSU

Mountain Lake Area's Carter Kirk has signed a Letter of Intent to play basketball at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

Kirk started on the Mountain Lake boys basketball team in his freshman year and is a three-time Red Rock All-conference performer. He has helped led the Wolverines to the Class A State Basketball Tournament the past two seasons. He was honorable mention all-state in 2012 and was a member of the state tournament’s all-tournament team in the 2012 season.
