The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their weekly Women's Basketball awards and this week's MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week is Minnesota West's Melissa Gehl

Gehl, a freshman from Fulda, scored 57 points in the Lady Jays 2 victories last week including a 31-point effort in Minnesota's West win over Western Tech on Saturday. In those 2 games, Gehl was 23-of-50 (46%) from the field and made 6 three-pointers.

Tara Sudenga of Luverne, Minn., has signed a National Junior College Letter of Intent to play softball for the Lakers beginning this season.

Sudenga is a 2014 graduate of Luverne (Minn.) High School who was a standout softball player for the Cardinals. Minnesota Twins Winter Caravan to make a stop in Worthington on Jan. 20th


The 55th annual Twins Winter Caravan will be making a stop in Worthington on January 20th.

The Twins Caravan will be making a stop at the Worthington Area YMCA and DeGroot Family Center on Collegeway in Worthington on January 20th from 9:00am-9:45am. Making a stop in Worthington this year is Twins Infielder Brian Dozier, Pitcher Brian Duensing and announcer Jack Morris and Dick Bremer alonf with T.C. Bear.

The public is invited and there is no charge to attend.

Luverne Cardinals Boys Hockey Team to play in 9th Annual Hockey Day Minnesota


The Luverne Cardinals Boys Hockey team is getting the chance to play on the big stage.

Luverne is 1 of 6 teams that will take center stage on an outdoor, refrigerated rink at St. Paul's Holman Field, highlighting the ninth annual Hockey Day Minnesota spectacular slated for this Saturday. Fighter jets and assault helicopters will form the spectacle's preliminary backdrop, with the skyline of downtown St. Paul behind them.

Luverne will take on St. Paul Johnson on Saturday morning at 10:00am with the game to be broadcast on Fox Sports North

Trojan Gymnastics Team qualifies for Class A State True Team Meet


--The Worthington Trojan Gymnastics team found out earlier this week that they qualified for the Class A State True Team Gymnastics Meet which will be held in Melrose on January 24th.

Only teams that were ranked 10th or higher as of January 8th qualified for the tournament. At that time Worthington was ranked 10th in the state. Jackson County Central, who was ranked 8th at the time, also qualified for the State True Team Meet.

Buysse named MCAC Player of the Week Once Again


For the 2nd time this season, Minnesota West sophomore Derek Buysse has been named the MCAC Southern Division Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Buysse had an outstanding weekend at the Central Lakes Classic in Brainerd last weekend, averaging 31.5 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game in the 2 games at the classic. He shot 55% from the field (23-42), including 50% from beyond the 3-point line (6-12) and was 11-of-16 at the free throw line. Jirele signs to run cross country at Mount Marty

Minnesota West sophomore wide receiver Elliot Oldham on Wednesday signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his football career at the Division I level with UTEP (University of Texas at El Paso)
