Friday Results from Iowa State Wrestling Tournament
Published by onA number of area wrestlers were in action Friday at the Iowa State Wrestling Tournament at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Class 1A:
At 103 pounds: 10th seeded Treyton Virtue of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock lost his wrestleback match by pinfall in 2:48 to top seeded Ryan Szalat of Fort Dodge St. Edmond and has been eliminated from tournament.
At 126 pounds: 6th seeded Colby McIntire of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock won by pinfall in 1:41 over 5th seeded Shane Poppins of Aplington-Parkersburg in the 2nd round of wrestlebacks. McIntire won by pinfall in 4:29 against 9th seeded Jared Eischeid of Carroll Kuemper Catholic in the 3rd round of wrestlebacks. McIntire will now wrestle 10th seeded Nathan Schmitz of Don Bosco, Gilbertville in the wrestlebacks Saturday. If McIntire wins, will wrestle for 3rd place later in the day on Saturday.
At 182 pounds: 6th seeded Dylan Brockshus of Sibley-Ocheyedan lost by pinfall in 1:44 to 3rd seeded Jesse Svoboda of Audubon in a State Quarterfinal. Brockshus lost his wrestleback match to 12th seeded Dillon Nelson of Fort Dodge St. Edmond by a 5-1 decision and has been eliminated from the tournament.
Class 2A:
At 120 pounds: 5th seeded Doug Miner of Spirit Lake Park won his State Quartefinal by a 7-3 decision over 14th seeded Charlie Jones of Waterloo Columbus Catholic. In the State Semifinals, Miner picked up a 7-4 decision over 9th seeded Brady Jennings of Osage. Doug Miner will wrestle for a State Title, facing 15th seeded Shadow Leshen of Albia on Saturday night
At 138 pounds: 3rd seeded Zach Skopec of Spirit Lake Park won his State Quarterfinal by a 11-3 Major Decision over 6th seeded Eric Clarke of Davenport Assumption. In the State Semifinals, Skopec fell by pinfall in 5:39 to 15th seeded Adam Staudt of Charles City. Skopec will now face 11th seeded Steven Garcia of Sergeant Bluff-Luton in a wrestleback match on Saturday. If Skopec wins, he will wrestle for 3rd place later in the day.
At 170 pounds: 10th seeded Toby Maggert of Sheldon/South O’Brien lost his wrestleback match against 16th seeded Seth Davisson of Knoxville by a 8-3 decision and was eliminated from the tournament
At 220 pounds: 3rd seeded Bryce Kelleher of Sheldon/South O’Brien won his State Quarterfinal by pinfall in 3:25 over 11th seeded Tyler Nguyen of Sergeant Bluff-Luton. In the State Semifinals, Kelleher lost an 8-5 decision to 7th seeded Adam Reth of West Delaware, Manchester. Kelleher will now wrestle 12th seeded Andy Hovden of Decorah in a wrestleback match on Saturday. If Kelleher wins, he will wrestle for 3rd place later in the day.
