Basketball Postseason Awards

Both the Minnesota and Iowa Basketball Coaches Association have handed out some postseason honors.

The Minnesota Boys Basketball Coaches Association has released their 2012-2013 Academic All-State Selections.  Area Athletes earning All-State Academic honors included Brett Heronimus of Luverne and Klint Knutson and Dominic Nibbelink both of Southwest Christian.


Also, the Minnesota Boys Basketball Coaches Association has named their Section and State Coaches of the Year.
The Section 2A Coach of the Year is Mountain Lake Area head coach Shawn Naas
The Section 3A Coach of the Year is Jaime Pap of Southwest Christian
The Section 3AA Coach of the Year is Markus Okeson of Redwood Valley
The Section 2AAA Coach of the Year is Travis Carroll of the Marshall Tigers.
The Section 6AAA Coach of the Year is Sean Kruger, former Sioux Valley-Round Lake-Brewster graduate and now the head coach of the Blake School.

The Minnesota Boys Basketball Coaches Association also hands out Academic Section Champions throughout the state.

The Section 3A Academic Team Champions were the Murray County Central Rebels.

The Section 3AA Academic Team Champions were the Montevideo Thunderhawks.

The Iowa Girls Basketball Coaches Association have released some postseason honors.

2012-2013 All-District Teams:
Class 1A Northwest All-District Team:
Noreen Morrow, Harris-Lake Park
Taylor Carstensen, George-Little Rock
Lexi Ackerman, Central Lyon
Kelsey Ackerman, Central Lyon
(These 4 players along with Kori Schulte of Central Lyon were also named to the Class 1A, Region 1 team as well)

Also, in Class 2A Northwest, earning a spot on the All-District team was Sibley-Ocheyedan junior Bridget Doeden and in Class 3A Northwest, Spirit Lake’s KJ Veldman was chosen to the All-District Team and their respective All-Region Teams.

On this year’s 2012-2013 All-State Girls Basketball Teams:
Earning 1
st Team All-State honors included Lexi Ackerman of Central Lyon.  Lexi Ackerman was also chosen as the Class 1A Player of the Year by the IBCA.

Central Lyon’s Kelsey Ackerman was named to the All-State 2
nd Team and Central Lyon’s Kori Schulte was chosen to the All-State 3rd Team and the State Coaches of the Year were Dan Kruse and Bruce Eckenrod of Central Lyon.  In Class 3A, Spirit Lake’s KJ Veldman was named to the All-State 1st Team.

he 2013 Larry Niemeyer All-Star Games are coming up on April 6th and 7th at Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids.  Lexi Ackerman of Central Lyon will play for the Class 1A Select Team, while Kori Schulte of Central Lyon and Taylor Carstensen of George-Little Rock will both be playing for the Class 1A Dark Team.  Spirit Lake’s KJ Veldman will be playing on the Class 3A Select Team.

The Iowa Boys Basketball Coaches Association has also released a number of postseason honors.

The 2012-2013 All Sub-State Team honors have been handed out.

Class 1A, Region 1 All Sub-State
Eli Ihnen, Harris-Lake Park
Brandt Van Roekel, Boyden-Hull
Riley Francis, Boyden-Hull

Class 2A, Region 1 All Sub-State
Dallas Ennema, Sheldon (Also chosen as the Class 2A Player of the Year by the IBCA)
Chris Balster, Sheldon
Alec Henrickson, Spirit Lake

The Class 1A, Region 1 Coach of the Year was Bill Francis of Boyden-Hull and the Class 2A, Region 1 Coach of the Year was Claude Struve of Sheldon.
