Former Worthington Trojan baseball stanout Steven Kremer, now a sophomore at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, was named to the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's second team this week.
Kremer, a native of Wilmont, played in 35 games with 29 starts and finished second on the team with a .374 batting average and second with 13 doubles. He also ranked second in slugging percentage (.566) and fourth in RBIs (22).
In the final NSIC statistics, Kremer ranked 12th in the league in batting average (.406), 14th in on-base percentage (.467) and 16th in slugging percentage (.609).
Minnesota Duluth’s Alex Wojciechowski was named NSIC’s Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, while Minnesota State’s Harvey Martin was named Pitcher of the Year. Upper Iowa's Martin Valdez was tabbed Newcomer of the Year, while Tim Bellew was voted by his peers as Coach of the Year.
Southwest Minnesota State University is a member of NCAA Division II and is located in Marshall. SMSU finished the 2013 season 17-23-1 overall, including 11-13 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, finishing one game out of qualifying for the NSIC tournament.
