Area Athletes earn All-State Baseball Honors

The Minnesota Baseball Coaches Association has released their All-State Baseball teams for the 20-13 season.

On the Class AA All-State Baseball team, Blake Rogers of Reading was named to the All-State team, Rogers, who just finished his senior season for the Worthington Trojans, had an excellent 2013 season, hitting .455 during the season, with an on-base percentage of .600. He finished the season with 18 RBI’s on 25 hits this season with 3 doubles, 2 triples and 3 homeruns. Rogers was even better in conference play, hitting for an average of .568 with an on-base percentage of .730 in Southwest Conference play. Blake Rogers was also dynamite on the mound this season for the Trojans, pitching 27 and 2/3 innings, giving up only 4 earned runs for an amazing ERA of 1.01 with 32 strikeouts to only 7 walks, winning 3 games and earning 2 saves this season. Rogers was recently named an All-Conference selection in the Southwest Conference for the second straight season and also was honored as the Conference MVP this season.

Also earning Class AA All-State honors this season includes Skyler Wenninger of Luverne, Logan Swann of Redwood Valley, Sam Carlson of St. James and Levi Becker of Fairmont.

Earning Class A All-State honors this season included Collin Lovell and Brandon Thongvivong of Windom and Sam Erickson of Murray County Central.

A number of these athletes will also be participating in the 2013 Play Ball Minnesota High School Baseball All-Star Series this week, June 20th through the 22nd in Chaska. The banquet will be held on Thursday night, which includes special guest speaker and MLB Hall of Famer Paul Molitor. Games begin at 3:00pm Friday afternoon. Blake Rogers will be playing as part of the South squad, along with Collin Lovell of Windom, Skyler Wenninger of Luverne, Logan Swann of Redwood Valley, Sam Erickson of Murray County Central, Sam Carlson of St. James and Levi Becker of Fairmont.
