Mountain Lake Area's Carter Kirk has signed a Letter of Intent to play basketball at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
Kirk started on the Mountain Lake boys basketball team in his freshman year and is a three-time Red Rock All-conference performer. He has helped led the Wolverines to the Class A State Basketball Tournament the past two seasons. He was honorable mention all-state in 2012 and was a member of the state tournament’s all-tournament team in the 2012 season. He is the career leading scorer for the Wolverines with 1,651 points — an average of 19 points per game. He is the team’s second-leading all-time rebounder with 967, for an 11.1 per-game average. He has collected 211 assists and 116 steals. In his junior season, he had 75 blocked shots.
In football, he earned three all-conference selections and in his 2013 campaign led the Southern Confederacy West in rushing and scoring. He has 108 career touchdowns and has 2,571 rushing yards and 47 rushing touchdowns to go along with 4,524 yards passing and 58 passing touchdowns.
