Changes coming to Worthington Football Schedule for 2014 and beyondPublished by on
With the beginning of the new Big South Conference just on the horizon, there will be a new look to the Worthington Trojan Football team's schedule beginning next season.
The Big South Conference features teams from the Southwest Conference and the South Central Conference. Worthington's 2014 schedule will all be Big South Conference games, facing 4 teams from the former Southwest Conference and 4 from the former South Central Conference.
The 4 former Southwest Conference rivals the Trojans will face in 2014 will be Marshall, Windom, Redwood Valley and Luverne. So in 2014 Worthington will NOT face Jackson County Central or Pipestone.
The 4 opponents from the former South Central Conference for the Trojans in 2014 will be Waseca, New Ulm, St. James and Fairmont. However Worthington, who has opened up the season against Fairmont since 2007, will face Redwood Valley to open the season as Fairmont is not on the schedule till week 7.
Another change to the 2014 schedule for all schools in Minnesota is the season has been moved up one week, so Worthington will begin the season on the road against Redwood Valley on August 22nd
More changes will be coming in the 2015 football schedule, as the Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors have approved the use of district scheduling. The plan calls for the Board to divide member schools into districts of 16 or more, using geographic proximity and like enrollments as the placement criteria. The member schools within each district will then establish their own protocol for scheduling eight regular season games.
Worthington will remain in Section 3AAA for one more season before district scheduling. The other teams include Fairmont, Blue Earth Area, Sibley East, St. Peter and Belle Plaine/Holy Family
